The Lemont Park District set out to transform unused land, formerly a brownfield petroleum storage site, into a space the community could actually enjoy. Doyle redeveloped the property into an over 13-acre park adjacent to downtown, complete with a bandshell, picnic shelters, playground, walking paths, restored wetlands, open green space, a dog park, site furnishings, a signature tower-bridge entrance, permeable-paver parking, and extensive landscaping.
Preparing a mostly bedrock site for this level of redevelopment required strategic earthwork and careful sequencing. Several feet of fill were brought in to reestablish wetlands and create stable building areas for the park’s amenities, a process that demanded significant grading and coordination with environmental regulators. Construction paused during the winter months due to site conditions and the nature of the work, but once weather allowed, the team resumed quickly and maintained close control over scheduling to keep the project on track.
